Hurricanes
The scientific name for a hurricane is a tropical cyclone. It is fueled by the heat that is released when moist air rises and condenses. Hurricanes rotate counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern. Hurricanes can produce extremely strong winds, tornadoes, heavy rain, and huge waves called storm surges.
